Water Figwort (Scrophularia auriculata)

Water figwort (Scrophularia auriculata) is a tall vigorous British native  pond or bog garden plant which produces masses of tiny maroon flowers from July to September.   It is excellent for wildlife, providing nectar for Bumble bees and pollinated by the common wasp, and is an RHS  ‘Plants for Pollinators’ plant.  In the nursery it is one of the most popular plants with the pollinators and is always covered with masses of wasps, butterflies and bees.  Happy in the pond or bog garden it is also able to tolerate periods of drought.  This is often listed  as growing to 90cm, but it can easily reach 2m in the right conditions although it has a narrow growing habit.Cut back after flowering to avoid self-seeding.Auriculata: ‘Shaped like an ear’  refers to the shape of the flowersHeight: up to 2mPlanting position: Pond marginal plant up to 10cm or wet soilForm: 9cm in a solid pot -please select size belowRecommended basket size min./ideal: 2 litre round/3 litre hexagonal(Recommended basket sizes are for potting up 9cm (0.5 litre) plants only as these are supplied in solid pots.  Larger sized plants are already in aquatic baskets so can go straight in the pond, however they may need potting up or splitting at some point)
