Sweet flag (Acorus calamus)

This tall waterside perennial has long narrow leaves which can be mistaken for Iris pseudacorus until you smell the sweet smelling rhizome.  If you crush the leaves they have a citrussy orange fragrance.  It produces a small horn-like green flower in summer gradually turning brown.
