Narrow reedmace (Typha angustifolia)

Narrow reedmace, often referred to a bulrush, is a smaller version of the Reedmace and although less vigorous it is still a very strong grower so not recommended for small ponds.  Some say its pointed rhizome can puncture liners but we don’t subscribe to that view but if you are worried  it can be put in a solid container.  The reed-like foliage is topped by smooth cigar shaped spikes from June to August.  A valuable native plant which provides egg laying sites for adult dragonfly also perching and roosting sites.
