Lizard’s tail (Saururus cernuus)

Lizard’s tail (Saururus cernuus) bears drooping spikes of tiny white fragrant flowers from June to August set against dark green heart to lanceolate shaped leaves.  The flowers, leaves and roots have a pleasant citrus scent.  A native of North America it is also less commonly known as the ‘Water Dragon’.  The flower spikes gently nod in the breeze, and the common and latin names refer to these nodding flower spikes.  Happiest in part shade but will also tolerate full sun or shade, though in full sun the leaves may yellow a little.  Can be planted in pond margins in still or slowly moving water or the bog garden.Saururus  comes from saurus (lizard )and cernuus means noddingHeight: 40-60cmPlanting position: Marginal up to 15cm deep or bog garden in full sun or part shadeForm:  9cm (0.5 litre) in a solid pot or 2 litre in an aquatic basket  -please select size belowRecommended basket size min./ideal: 2 litre round/3.5 litre round(Recommended basket sizes are for potting up 9cm (0.5 litre) plants only as these are supplied in solid pots.  Larger sized plants are already in aquatic baskets so can go straight in the pond, however they may need potting up or splitting at some point)
