Houttuynia cordata (Orange Peel plant) ‘Flore Pleno’

Houttuynia cordata (Orange peel plant) ‘Flore Plena’ is an attractive foliage plant with heart-shaped orange-scented leaves which unlike the ‘Chameleon’ and ‘Boo Boo’ variants are plain but nonetheless are a quite sophisticated mat blue-green colour.  From July to September it produces small pretty yellow flower spikes with multiple white bracts below, which are the dominant feature so the overall impression is of a white ‘flower’.  The foliage is at its best between May-October.  Very vigorous so trim back roots around the basket to control its spread in water: it will raft across the water so is a good plant for shallow pond margins and will help to keep the water clear.Houttuynia after Dr Martin Houttuyn of Amsterdam; cordata heart sheaped leavesHeight: 30cmPlanting position: Marginal plant up to 5cms or very wet soil in full sun or part shadeForm: 9cm in a solid pot -please select size belowRecommended basket size min./ideal: 2 litre round/3.5 litre round(Recommended basket sizes are for potting up 9cm (0.5 litre) plants only as these are supplied in solid pots.  Larger sized plants are already in aquatic baskets so can go straight in the pond, however they may need potting up or splitting at some point)
