Blue pickerel (Pontederia cordata) flowers in late summer and early autumn forming clumps of striking arrow shaped leaves with dense blue flower spikes and is larger than the White pickerel. A valuable plant providing egg laying sites for adult dragonfly and also perching and roosting sites. The dragonfly larvae (nymphs) use the stems to climb out of the water to dry off before emerging as adult dragonflies. It has an RHS AGM.Pontederia after G.
