Unlike previous issues where Austrian stamps were simply stamped over (surcharged) with local currency, the 1908 series was specially designed and printed with the Ottoman currency—Paras and Piasters—already integrated into the design. This issue celebrated the 60th Jubilee (Anniversary) of the reign of Emperor Franz Joseph I. Design & Technical Specifications Country of Origin: Austria (for use in its Levant offices located in places like Constantinople/Istanbul, Smyrna/İzmir, Salonica, and Jerusalem). Catalog Numbers: Michel #57 / Scott #62 Denomination: 1 Piaster (equivalent to 40 Para) Color: Blue on a distinctive light blue surface-colored paper. Design Details: Features the left-facing portrait profile of Emperor Franz Joseph I. The design mimics the domestic Austrian 1908 Jubilee set, but the currency banners at the bottom strictly state the Ottoman values. Printing Method: Typographed.
