Austria post in Turkey stamps set year 1900 Mi 32-38 Complete Set MH The 1900 series (Michel #32–38) for the Austrian Post Offices in the Ottoman Empire represents a major design overhaul in Austrian philately. In 1900, domestic Austria moved away from the old Kreuzer/Gulden system to the modern Heller/Krone system. Consequently, new base stamps featuring a freshly engraved, diagonal left-facing portrait of Emperor Franz Joseph I were issued. For use in the Levant, these brand-new Heller stamps were immediately given crisp, horizontal black overprints in local Ottoman Para and Piaster values. This specific range (Mi #32–38) constitutes the core definitive values used for standard letter post, postcard mail, and commercial registry fees. When you tilt these stamps toward a light source, you will see glossy diagonal stripes. The “Granite” Paper: The paper stock itself contains tiny, subtle colored silk fibers mixed into the pulp. If you look closely under a magnifying glass, you will see minuscule thread-like imperfections in the paper, adding a distinct texture.
